The director had a role model track for this one. A few in fact. I pictured in my head, that she is walking down the street, going to work, eating a sandwich and smoking a cigarette. She’s supposed to be kind of badass and chilled. We tried out a few different options for this story, but ultimately it was just screaming for some pre-existing music. It was like a music video and what Tom had chosen, fit perfectly in terms of the lyrics and the feel of it. I think I would have needed to find a professional lyricist to work with for that sort of thing, as bad lyrics ruins easily any good music. And I'm not a lyricist.
In the role model tracks, Tom specifically mentioned the distorted vocals. So I sang some ideas down, but I had no lyrics for it, so you'll only hear the melody. As we never ended up using the music as intended originally, the lyrics were not an issue after all.
A friend of mine, Jouko, played the guitars after I had sang to him what I had in mind and added his own feel to it. I recorded the bass guitar and the drums are from a Native Instruments sample library.
Here’s one of the versions that I tried out. This ended up being used on another story in the film.
